American Indian Textiles 2,000 Artists Biographies

Product #:  Bk100
Description:

This book presents brief biographical profiles of American Indian textile artists. They are organized in to three groups: "Navajo Weavers," "Pueblo Textile Artists," and "Other Native American Textile Artists."

The purpose of the series is to introduce people to American Indian artists and their fine arts. This volume profiles over 2,000 artists from the past two centuries, featuring over 600 artist portraits and more than 1,000 textiles.

This book was created with the cooperation of American Indian artists and their friends. Through artist surveys, archival research and personal interviews, information was collected in 25 categories: including the artist's pueblo, moiety (social group), clan (group of extended families), active years, lifespan, family relationships, education, teachers, students, awards, demonstrations, exhibitions, collections, favorite designs, publications, and twenty years of auction records. Many completed a personal statement, "I enjoy creating artwork, because..." Some wrote or narrated autobiographical statements.

Following the biographies are family tree charts which illustrate how artistic traditions are passed down from one generation to the next.
